Formed in 1997, the Columbus, OH, threesome the Marbles turn back the clock to Go-Go's-inspired new wave played with a rocking edge drawn from such influences as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and even Guns N' Roses (Appetite for Destruction was the album that led guitarist Joe Mertz to pick up the guitar). Singer/songwriter/bassist Manda Marble and guitarist Joe Mertz first played together in the Ohio rock band Dick, Jane, and Sally. When that gig broke up, Manda and Joe began to look for a drummer and started to write songs for the power pop band the Marbles. Out in Los Angeles, child actor Mark Slak, who had been working as Jason Priestley's stand-in on #90210, saw an ad looking for a drummer in his hometown Columbus newspaper, and the rest is history.
